Character: Ji-Li's Mother Student Name: Claudia
1. Question: How did the Cultural Revolution affect your life?
Answer: It made me feel scared every second of every day. I was afraid that the Cultural Revolution would get so bad that my children would be taken away. Every day I felt sad and sometimes a little bit angry because of my husband's background. I don’t understand why my husband’s background has to do with anything that has to do with my children and me. I have been accused of being a landlord’s wife because of my husband’s dead father. Being accused of being a landlord's wife made me feel very angry and upset because my family and I were NOT wealthy and I did not own any land, my husband and I had to work just like any other family hat to. In other words my family lived a pretty normal life. I also feel ashamed and sometimes embarrassed that my children, especially Ji-Li, cant participate in being a Red Successor or in class exhibitions because of her class status.(page 57-58, 228, 253
2. Question: How do you feel about Mao?
Answer: As said on page 26 through 27 I was not enthusiastic about the "Destroying of the Four Olds". I knew that my family (husband’s background) had a bad past (background). I did not want to get involved into the event because I was afraid that somebody would find out about our family background and possibly ransack our house for Four Olds I would lose all of my family heritage backgrounds. I am not happy with what Mao has done. (Page 26-27)
3. Question: Why did you keep your family heritage items all of those years, why was it sad to destroy them?
Answer: I kept my family heritage items all of these years because they were just too nice to throw away, so me and my mom kept them in old trunks. It was sad to cut them up because they were part of my family; they were part of my life. When I had to cut them up that meant that I was cutting up my family, I was cutting up my life. In addition I or my mom couldn’t feel sad about them because they were four olds. (Page 96-97)

2) One observation i have is that i noticed that all of the workers werent wearing shoes! Another observation i saw was that many familiar companys bought the clothing the workers were making. For example, Gap, Target, and Old Navy!
3) One question that i really want to know is if the workers are getting paid enough to support their family or families? Another question i really want to know is, what are their work hours?
I really enjoyed our flex day and i like learning about where the clothes that i wear may come from, and how much work people put into making one pair of jeans or a pair of shorts!

Elliot’s Expose
Blog response instructions:
• Answer the questions in complete sentences and use proper English (restrain from using MSN chat style of writing).
• Use evidence from the novel to support your answer and include page numbers.
• When commenting to your peers, be respectful in your language and about their responses. It is okay to disagree, but do it in a polite manner.
When Elliot writes about his experience with the Jock Rots and sends it out over the KidNet, he includes the following quote in his letter.
"I think people ought to realize that stuff like this goes on every day…The rest of you are all part of it-because you let it go on and maybe you think it's funny, or you think it only happens to geeky outsiders and kids who are smaller or fatter or skinnier or don't have so many friends or so much money as you. So tell me-what happens when you don't have so many friends one day, or you don't have so much money, or something bad happens to you?" (91-92)
Blog Question:
What is the message is he trying to get across to his classmates? (6pts)
Blog Answer:
On page 92 Elliot is writing down a message, after he explains his incident with the jock rots, that describes how his fellow students are the purpose of bullying in Parkland School. He writes that they play a part in bullying by not standing up for the victims of bullies, instead they just stand there and laugh while the skinny, fat, nerdy, and uncool people get bullied over and over again. I think Elliot's message is that the kids should stand up for the victims and stop the bullies from bullying, instead of being a by standard and letting the victims get hurt. For example on page 58 and 59, the jock rots were holding Elliot over a river, on a bridge. They let go and he fell, coming back with a very badly sprained ankle and a minor concussion. This is how victims can get hurt if the by standards don't fight back!

The Revealers: blog topic: role reversal
Blog Question: After the Bully Lab was renamed, the Revealers, and the stories of the three Darkland students were released and well received by the student body, Elliot wanted to publish Russell’s narrative about Richie punching Russell in the face.
1) Why was Russell so opposed to the idea (pg. 110)? Explain. (4 pts)
2) What is happening to the relationship between Russell and Richie. (3 pts)
3) Two Peer Comments (4 pts each)
Blog Answer:
1) I think Russell was so opposed to the idea because he was afraid that Richie would read it and get the idea that Russell is trying to get him into trouble. I found this example on page 110. This is where Elliot is trying to persuade Russell to post his story about the time where Russell wrote to Elliot telling him the story of Richie hitting him.
2) The relationship between Russell and Richie is getting stronger. On page 98 and 99 it shows that Russell and Richie are having a conversation about how russell was standing up to Blanchette and Burke. Then Richie was telling to Russell that he can ask him questions anytime, but to just make sure its the right questions. They were talking sort of like friends.
